Georgiana

Georgiana

The Georgiana is a woman dressed in exotic clothes, ironically called “the Wise Woman” by Neapolitans. She has elegant features and glowing skin, with either a fair or a dark complexion. Apparently, the Georgiana is none other than Diana, the personification of the Moon and of the universal feminine principle. She follows the three Wise Men on foot or on a palanquin carried by servants. A typical element of her costume is the “canciaro”, a brass object dangling from a little chain similar to valuable Turkish daggers that can be found in the inventories of King Ferdinand the Fourth’s armoury.
