“The Two Companions”, namely “zi’ Vicienzo” and “Zi’ Pascale” (uncle Vincenzo and uncle Pasquale) are respectively the personification of the Carnival and of Death, whose skull is traditionally placed in the Fontanelle Cemetery and often invoked to tell the future and suggest winning lottery numbers. They are depicted as playing cards, and they represent the unpredictability of life and of the future, just like cards that are drawn from a deck.
